I’m signing Dead in the Water in ten days! 
November 11th at 2pm, I’ll be at the Poisoned Pen Bookstore in Scottsdale, AZ, for the official launch party of Poison Pen Press’s hardcover edition of Dead in the Water. The third Kate Shugak novel, Dead in the Water takes Kate out to the Aleutians and puts her on a crab fishing boat. Have any of those wimps on The Deadliest Catch ever killed anybody with a boathook? I don’t think so. Come on down and I’ll tell you — almost — all about it. I’ll also be signing a stack for those unable to make it, which you can order here from the Poisoned Pen.
Bad Blood is on its way 
As regular readers of my Facebook page will know, I recently spent some red-pencil time making final edits to the latest Kate Shugak novel, Bad Blood. It is now in the tender care of the Fed Ex fairy, destination, Hurricane Sandy willing, New York City. Pre-order your copies here from the Poisoned Pen Bookstore. On February 26, 2013, you can join me and a bunch of Danamaniacs at the store, and I’ll sign ’em for you. I am putting together a little slideshow commemorating all twenty titles. A new Kate short story, coming soon 
Coming out December 18th, just in time for the holidays, look for a new Kate Shugak short story for the e-readers among you, called “Any Taint of Vice.” I tried my hand at a little Anchorage noir (it's all Jonathan Santlofer's fault, about which more later). Kate and Mutt look for a missing ne’er-do-well and his blackmailer in the big city. FYI, any similarities you detect between this and Raymond Chandler’s Big Sleep are strictly intentional. It also contains the first four chapters of Bad Blood, just to tempt/tide you over. Although we all know Carolyn won’t read them. What’s your Talent? 
Many years ago, I traveled to the land of Mnemosynea, where at puberty all citizens begin to manifest a magical Talent (brewing? baking? swordplay? spell casting?). I fell in with a Seer and Sword named Sharryn and Crowfoot as they were riding a circuit detecting crime and dispensing justice. I wrote reports of two of their more curious cases, and when I returned home the stories were published in two short story anthologies. Subsequently, I discovered my own Talent was to resurrect my out of print stories as e-books. Justice is a Two-Edged Sword and A Woman’s Work are both now available for download on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and iTunes, for the bargain basement price of 99 cents each. Enjoy!
